Re-view: ‘UNS GEFÄLLT ALLES’ / 12.08.17

Here are some impressions of the preview show of recent residents from Austria, the UK, South Africa, South Korea, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Scotland, and Argentina, after having spent two months working at the residency. This round of artists has a particular interest in painting, ceramics, installation, found objects and social media, with thematic interests ranging from the narrative of digitized memory, sexual  identity & identity politics, to the autonomy and objecthood of a painting.

We would like to thank Galerie Bipolar for hosting the exhibition, WISP Kollectiv for their performance, and all the attendees who came to the opening event.

“UNS GEFÄLLT ALLES” // Exhibition in Progress

This week, we focused on preparing our preview exhibition. This round of artists has a particular interest in painting, ceramics, installation, found objects and media arts, with thematic interests ranging from the narrative of digitized memory, sexual  identity & identity politics, to the autonomy and objecthood of a painting.  “Uns gefällt alles” is a preview for the final presentation, taking place in September 2017. This exhibit aims to share the research and production that has continued at the new site of Pilotenkueche. It is our goal to trigger and to develop a dialogue, to propel a participative mandate between enthusiasts & artists.  Tonight we are pleased to feature guest performers from WISP, as well as a collaborative performance between our own artists.

All are invited to attend tonight’s opening event.

Artist Talks II & Museum Tour

Last week, we made use of the open-museum day to investigate Leipzig’s Museum der bildenden Künste & GfZK. Finishing our day at the bau bau cafe, we discussed the differences between the way these institutions present work and involve audiences. How does the Museum blueprint enhance or limit spectatorship, and how do other institutions respond? We then continued our in-house Artist Talks, and were joined by our guest artist Matthias Garff.  Here are our plans for our upcoming exhibitions!

Visiting: Robin Zöffzig

Last week we visited the atelier of Robin Zöffzig at the Spinnerei. He gave us a generous overview of his practice, from detailing the influence of Chinese art on his methodology to his conception of contemporary religious iconography. We also discussed the history of German art and the fine art academic system. We are looking forward to further working with Robin (our guest artist) during our Final show at our studios!

PILOTENKUECHE Artist Residency is an independent art program open to artists of all nationalities. Working towards the common goal of a final group exhibition leads to intensive dialogue about individual ideas and working practices and binds the artist temporarily into a group, which leads to a longer-term network that exists even after the residency is over.

Re-View: Artists Talks // 15.06.17 / 32nd Round

Here are some impressions of last weeks in-house artist talks with the recent residents from Austria, the UK, South Africa, South Korea, the USA, Canada, Brasil, Scotland and Argentina. Our aim  was to gain a overview about the diversity of approaches found at our studio. This is the first step towards the common goal of collaboration & discourse, leading to our final group exhibition. We were excited to learn that this round shares a common motive of critical underpinnings in their artistic & thematic approach. Needless to say, we are eager see what they will come up with.

To open the presentations we had a wonderful talk delivered by a former resident, the interdisciplinary and forever enchanting Jacqueline Van de Geer. Thank you so much for visiting us!

During their first week the new residents already started to work and changed the studio into a productive space. Curious visitors came to meet them and with our “Welcome BBQ” we had the chance to celebrate their arrival with sunshine.
