Visiting: Leipzig’s Eastside

This week we visited the eastern part of Leipzig and some spaces of it’s vibrate underground art scene. We started our trip with the “Pögehaus e.V.” – a positive example of how the creative scene is protecting buildings in the time of gentrification. Jan Keilhauer introduced the project and the house and we learned more about collaborative concepts. On the way to the next space, we stoppend at an empty building. “Why are we stopping?” asked Jacqueline van de Geer. “This is a negative example of how things can turn – this was the building were a second PILOTENKUECHE, a Café and alternative concepts were planned to settle. This never happend, we needed to leave the building, after we remodeled some parts of it.”

With the latest event ‘TALK TALK TALK’ the recent residents from USA, Switzerland, Argentinia, Chile, France, Canada, Poland, UK, Ireland & the Netherlands will present their positions during our artist talks afternoon. This round of artists offers a very special focus on abstract painting, performance, drawing and science art.

The event aims to give a overview about the diversity of approaches which will be developed here. Guests are more than welcome to join this afternoon and to get in a more intense dialogue with the artists. The goal is to provide and to reflect the own position as well as the perspectives of the others to discover interfaces, common topics and to boost collaborations.

The PILOTENKUECHE Artist Residency is a non-profit studio program open to artists of all internationalities. The work towards the common goal of a final group exhibition leads to intensive dialogue about individual ideas and working practices, binding the artist individuality temporarily into a group, which leads to a longer-term network that exists even after the residency is over.

Visiting: the Future

In view of the big changes the project ‘PILOTENKUECHE’ will do in the next year – a new space & a new management – we visited with our current residents: the future. We went to the new space and brainstormed what the future should bring. Wishes, ideas and critic was written down and will be forwarded to the new management! We will inform who this will be during the next weeks.

Visiting: Laura Eckert

We started the first week of the new pilots with visiting the studio of Laura Eckert. Her wooden sculpture’s ‘should talk for themselve’. Of course they do and this is why we had a lot of questions, talks and fruitful interaction. Many thanks Laura!

THE NEW PILOTENKUECHE

We’re happy to announce that the project PILOTENKUECHE will move into a new space. From 01.02.17 the project will host around 10 artists in a 465m² big studio  which is based at Franz-Flemming-Str. 9, a new uprising area.

With this change the artists can work in a nicer & larger environment with original industrial charme. The building where the new space is based in seems from the outside like a romantic ruin. But from the inside it is a pearl.

Before the residency in 2017 is starting it will be remodeled and fitted with a heating system, electricity, a tea kitchen, walls to work on and sufficient equipment. There will be no break. The costs do also not change, but what the artists will receive is more – more space, more light, more PILOTENKUECHE!

We will update our website regularly with news about the new space & its development.
