“What Did You Expect?”// Exhibition in Progress

This week, we focused on preparing our preview exhibition. The final show of our most recent residents from the UK, Canada, Israel, Korea, China, Slovakia, the US, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands, will present the work of nearly three months spent at the residency.

Through photography, found objects, painting, sculpture, and digital media, aesthetic and social boundaries are blurred. The 33rd round of artists is especially interested in the play of art, its capacity to contain, convey, or spur an experience. We are also pleased to incorporate the work of our local participants, Martin Schuster and Sébastien Kauffmann, as well as our guest artists, Willy Le Nalbaut and Ando Saori.

All are welcome to attend our opening event this Saturday, December 16th.

Final Exhibition // ‘What Did You Expect?’ of the 33rd round / 16.12 – 22.12.17

The final show of our most recent residents from the UK, Canada, Israel, Korea, China, Slovakia, the US, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands, will present the work of nearly three months spent at the residency.

You approach one of the disintegrated dwellings on Franz-Flemming. You do this because you have heard there will be a night of performances; perhaps you have even visited before. You are led by candle light up two flights of stairs, and peer through a partially shattered opening. You glimpse a volleyball court, a pi(nk)nic, a cluster of reeking balloons, a fools fire, a suspect living room. What did you expect?

Through photography, found objects, painting, sculpture, and digital media, aesthetic and social boundaries are blurred. The 33rd round of artists is especially interested in the play of art, its capacity to contain, convey, or spur an experience. We are also pleased to incorporate the work of our local participants, Martin Schuster and Sébastien Kauffmann, as well as our guest artists, Willy Le Nalbaut and Ando Saori.

Re-view: ‘GOODBYE HORSES’ / 14.01.17

Here are some impressions of the final show of the recent residents from USA, Germany, Chile, France, Canada, Poland, UK, Ireland & the Netherlands with the results after they worked 3 months in the residency. After several preview shows the exhibition gave a selection of the previous works as well as new ones of this productive group of artists. They offered a very special focus on abstract painting, performance, drawing and science art. The works are presenting a diversity of expression around the topics of identity, technic & nature with performative & activism approaches. Each position lighted from its own perpective onto contentual interfaces to light them out from diverse points of view. This was the last show, which will take place on the current space. During the show the group of artists went in the costumes of the performance “popessy” (idea and costumes by Jacqueline Van De Geer) to put a spot onto the exhibition and a sign for the future of the project.

The PILOTENKUECHE Artist Residency is a non-profit studio program open to artists of all internationalities. The work towards the common goal of a final group exhibition leads to intensive dialogue about individual ideas and working practices, binding the artist individuality temporarily into a group, which leads to a longer-term network that exists even after the residency is over.

Re-view: preview shows of the 30th round

Here are some impressions of the preview shows of the recent residents from USA, Germany, Chile, France, Canada, Poland, UK, Japan, Ireland & the Netherlands . This round of artists offers a very special focus on abstract painting, performance, drawing and science art. The works are presenting a diversity of expression around the topics of identity, technic & nature with performative & activism approaches. Each position lights from its own perpective onto contentual interfaces to light them out from diverse points of view.

The exhibitions aimed to give a preview for the final presentation which will take place in January 2017 and to develop a dialoque between interests & artists. The goal is to overthink and to reflect the own position as well as the results of the others to discover interfaces and common topics.

The PILOTENKUECHE Artist Residency is a non-profit studio program open to artists of all internationalities.
