WELCOME NEW PILOTS // 37th Round

We are pleased to welcome the pilots of the 37th round, who will be at PILOTENKUECHE from October through December 2018. The artists hail from Japan, Germany,  the Netherlands, Austria, Canada, Italy, Israel, UK and USA. This round brings painting, installation, mixed media, drawing, performance, sound, sculpture, video, light installation, printmaking, conceptual art, and multimedia into focus.

It’s been a busy first week! The new residents have chosen studio spaces and are actively making them their own. On Thursday we took time out to do a mini tour of city center to introduce the artists their new home.

Afterwards, we went to GFZK where locaL artist Michael Hahn talked to us about his exhibition, Timing is Everything. He grew up in the former GDR and has lived in both systems. His playful use of materials and his take on time really resonated.

If the past could be changed, it would not exist. If the future could be stopped, it would not survive. If the present could be avoided, it would not prevail.” Matshona Dhliwayo

And on Friday the artists had their first collaboration; a potluck lunch. We are looking forward to spending the rest of the year with this group!
