Visiting: Mazen M. Khaddaj, Alessandra Donnarumma

In order to get to know their neighbors in the studio house better, the artists visited Mazen Khaddaj in his studio right downstairs. Mazen, a painter and video artist, was a pilot of Pilotenkueche even twice after he left his graphic designer job in Lebanon in order to become an artist. He tends to work in series: One was about grounding, with his feet being the main protagonists both of his paintings and his video art; he processed the experience of moving to a foreign country and trying to grow new roots there. Another series of paintings is about spirituality, a third investigates clusters of bodies, arranging to a multitudinous monster.

This week, we went to Alessandra Donnarumma’s studio in Tapetenwerk. Alessandra is a master in several ancient printing techniques, such as intaglio, etching, and embossing, hoping to revive the use of traditional materials, methods and tools within contemporary art. The artists were able to see these processes, as well as example works, and discuss with Alessandra about her experience as an artist in Leipzig.

We would like to thank Mazen and Alessandra for opening their studios to us and we hope we can see more in the future!
