OPEN CALL FOR CURATORS / April – June 2019

The Open Call for Curators for the April – June 2019 round of our international art program is active now and we are open for applications. The program invites selected artists from around the world to come and work in the fully remodeled space for a period of three months. Our concept encourages experimental strategies and embraces a trans-disciplinary ethos, aiming to provide our participants with the experience of accomplishing something collectively. In a group of around eleven participants, a stimulating dialogue becomes vital in fostering an independent position in one’s work.

 

The project invites within the “Emerging Curator Program” curators to gain direct experience in the field. Invited curators engage with a group of artists and learn complex social, theoretical and practical aspects of accommodating various concepts and mediums in a single exhibition. This program aims to support the young profesaionals and to connect them to international as well as local artists and the greater Leipzig community. We maintain engagements with several partners, and by introducing our artists to these, make it possible for participants to cooperate with and exhibit in other venues. Our concept encourages experimental strategies and embraces a trans-disciplinary ethos, aiming to provide our participants with the experience of accomplishing something collectively. In a group of around international and local artists a stimulating dialogue becomes vital in fostering an independent position in one’s work while binding the individuals temporarily within the group, which leads to a long-term network that exists even after the program is over.

We’re looking for interns to participate on our program in the 39th round during from April – June 2019 until 30.06.18.

WHAT WE PROVIDE
We offer the chance to connect with artists and expand the personal network we understand the project as a platform for the participating curator, to gain insights as well as to experiment in a practical field, to benefit their own position, concepts, as well as overall career.

EXPECTATIONS
We expect openness, good English / German skills, a hands-on mentality, flexibility and the ability to work independently, paired with significant skills in contemporary art. The curator is expected to work actively within the group of artists to develop, mobilize, and realize concepts of the planned exhibition. Further expectations include discussing didactic concepts as well as giving assistance to the artists, individually and collectively. Curators work a maximum of 20 hours /week for a period of 3 months.

LAST MINUTE CALL FOR ARTISTS / July – September 2018

The independent project “PILOTENKUECHE” is looking for one artist from around the world to come and work in the fully remodeled space for a period of three months in the time of July – September 2018 because one of our accepted artists is not able to come. Each accepted artist is offered a partial stipend, provided by ‘PILOTENKUECHE’. We also maintain engagements with several partners, and by introducing our artists to these, make it possible for participants to cooperate with and exhibit in other venues. Our concept encourages experimental strategies and embraces a trans-disciplinary ethos, aiming to provide our participants with the experience of accomplishing something collectively. In a group of around eleven participants, a stimulating dialogue becomes vital in fostering an independent position in one’s work.

 

Participants receive all documentation necessary to apply for funding and the visa process. If required, the project can assist with additional individual reference letters. One of our accepted artists is not able to come and we re looking for artists to participate in our program from July – September 2018 until 30.04.18.

WHAT WE PROVIDE
Our art program fuses the use of studio space with external activities. The Studio space consists of one furnished 36m² space per artist, situated in our 465m² communal loft.

 

The monthly program fee is 400,00 EUR (already including the stipend) with an additional basic fee about 400,00 EUR, which is required to deposit to hold the place in the program. The fee covers the participation costs and includes all side costs such as wifi, provided utilities, renovation, repairs, vat, and the use of the workshop equipment. The artist is responsible for travel costs, art materials & living accommodation. For a detailed list of program equipment please consult our website. The program activities consists of studio visits, museum tours, scheduled art critiques, an art talk by our residents, as well as one preview show and one final group exhibition. “PILOTENKUECHE” is an international art program based in europe’s boomtown Leipzig, Germany. The independent project is organized by artists with a transdisciplinary background between art, theory & diverse sciences.

Within the “International Internship Program” we would like to allow students, enthusiasts, and anyone interested, to gain insights into the activities of the team of PILOTENKUECHE, to expand their own knowledge and skills, and to work in a social environment for a period of 3 months.

We offer our interns direct insight into the workflow of our international residency, a chance to connect with artists and expand of your personal network. You will gain experience in the field of press and public relations. We curate and prepare exhibitions together. This internship may also be incorporated into your university program credentials.

EXPECTATIONS
We expect openness, good English skills, hands on mentality, flexibility and the ability to work independently, paired with a basic interest in contemporary art. Interns work a maximum of 20 hours /week for a period of 3 months.
