Last week we said goodbye to our most recent residents. We’d like to commend this round of artists for making our first term in the new studios an exceptional learning experience; We will not forget your openness and your efforts! In addition we would like to thank our  friends, attendees and our supporters during these months of transition, as well as the broader Leutzsch community for participating in our Tour de Franz open studio event. Re-view: ‘FULL STOP’ / 20 – 27.05.17

Here are some impressions of the final show of the recent residents from Brazil, Belgium, Greece, Canada, Sweden, Northern Ireland, USA, UK, Russia, Malaysia, China, and South Korea after they worked three months in PILOTENKUECHE.

This group was particularly special to us as the first group of artists that has vitalized the new site of Pilotenkueche. Their work offered a very special focus on painting, research based work, installation and photography, presenting a diversity of expression around the topics of identity, data aggregation, & nature with a myriad of technical & activistic approaches. During the opening were three performances, live music, and a chance to discuss the final work with our international residents. In addition we were pleased to include three guest artists from Leipzig: Hannes Uhlenhaut, Marie Lynn Ravens, and hansen_windisch. With an ethos of inclusion, we presented a range of narratives to explore the dialogue of the broader context in contemporary art. The show  took place at the new space of PILOTENKUECHE, where all were welcome to attend the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the project. Here are some impressions of the exhibition:

These exhibitions aim to give a preview for the final presentation, which will take place in May 2017. The show will take place at the new space of PILOTENKUECHE, where all are welcome to attend the celebration of the projects tenth anniversary. Before we present the final result, it is our goal to trigger and develop a dialogue between participants & artists. The goal is to reflect upon individual positions collectives, to discover intersections between a myriad of approaches.

The PILOTENKUECHE Artist Residency is an independant art program open to artists of all nationalities. The work towards the common goal of a final group exhibition leads to intensive dialogue about individual ideas and working practices, binding the artist temporarily into a group, which leads to a longer-term network that exists even after the residency is over.

exhibition in progress: curation talks

Consultations and follow-ups are an important part of our program. Last week we discussed ideas and projects for our preview and final shows. We are keen on pushing the works and limits of our artists!

“COMMA,” / preview exhibition

COMMA,

A list, a group, a pause.

Envisioning the residency as a sentence; a period in which ideas are articulated and developed, COMMA represents a halfway point. A view into a collection of varied practices, from artists midway into their stay in Leipzig.

Paralleling the comma’s function, the exhibition serves as a mechanism by which dissimilar concepts and aesthetics can be grouped into a whole whilst remaining distinct.

The works themselves act as punctuation marks; generating a series of pauses as each is viewed in turn –  creating those spaces in which communication can occur and thoughts can be formed.

Work in Progress / 31st round

The first five weeks of the program have given the residents the space to focus on their individual practices. In becoming accustomed to Leipzig and by adapting to a new studio space, they also become accustomed to one other. This round features artists using photography, painting, data aggregation + transformation, and intervention schemes to investigate themes ranging from portraiture to audio visual relations. In addition we would like to welcome two artists who joined us this month: Ian Cumberland from Ireland, and Sun Chang from China.
