Work in progress: Setup of the Final Exhibition // 08.06.18

After two and a half months of the program, the artists are preparing for the final exhibition in the studio rooms of Pilotenkueche. With the support of the curator, positions are negotiated, new combinations of artworks are discovered, and even walls find new homes as the studio undergoes a metamorphosis in the days leading up to the opening on Friday, which will include work from each of our international residents and local participants, as well as performances from guest artists.

This time, the final exhibition is incorporated into the Franz-Flemming Open Studio event — during the weekend, several other studios and art spaces on Franz-Flemming-Straße can also be visited. We are excited to show you what we have been working on this round, and hope to see you there!

Re-View: Consultations // 30.05.18

The consultation between a curator and an artist is a crucial moment for the exhibition. The direct contact between the participants guides the overall direction of the curation, and encourages creativity, a process that transforms the initial and individual ideas. In this pairing, we develop a different concept about an exhibition, one that is greater than the ideas of one mind. The consultation period also allows the artist to reevaluate their work and to compare their ideas with an outsider, which ultimately helps define their position in the exhibition. It is likewise essential for the curator to understand the individual pieces that are a part of the exhibition as a whole. We are looking forward to a night of performances and collaboration, and would again like to invite you to Bauchgefühl, the final exhibition of the 35th round at our studios!

Guest Visit: HTWK Class // 26.04.18

This week we had the chance to speak to a class of students from the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK). Coming from a science background, this group of students heightened our self-awareness and gave us the chance to clarify the way we speak of art, allowing us to develop an interdisciplinary discourse. Many thanks to the students and to Professor Friedrich Figge for making this possible!
