Artists Talks and Brunch // 11.01.18

Last week, each artist gave an insight onto their work, in our introductory in-house presentations. We had a lovely brunch, and learned that this round focuses on textiles, memory, post-internet glitch art, and history. We also got to know the work of our intern Paula Bowler!

Visiting: Fernando Davis & Christiane Bruhns

Last week we visited the studio of the passionate and talented artist Chrisitiane Bruhns. She talked with us about the creative and the compositional process of her abstract paintings. Her new studiomate Fernando Davis who was a pilot of the 29th round presented his works too.

After that we turned back to our studio and celebrated christmas. Many thanks Christiane and all the best Fernando!

PILOTENKUECHE is regularly visiting artists with its residents to introduce them into the local art scene and – moreover – to create an exchange between our international guests and artists, which are based in Leipzig.

Duane Bahia Benatti, Untitled 2015 acrylic on canvas 195 x 260 cm

Born in 1983 in Brazil, Duane Bahia Benatti is now based in Leipzig. He studied visual arts at FAAP in São Paulo graduating in 2010.  His research has led him to experiment with materials: creating his paintings by in turn juxtaposing dried layers of acrylics on canvas or constructing these disembodied sheets of paint as stand-alone pieces. Recently he also created his own recipes for handmade inks. We asked him three questions to get to know him better: about his relationship to the city, his work and, finally to play a rather mean game of ‘would you rather’. Continue reading
