Re-View: Zishi Han and Olivia Malena Vidal at Ping Pong // 30.11.17

Last week, two of our pilots had a joint exhibition at an experimental art space in Lindenau. Under the title “An Evening Story,” Olivia Malena Vidal and Zishi Han presented a curated room which explored a domestic atmosphere, featuring painting and found objects.

We would like to thank the organizer, curator and artist Marcel Noack pf Ping-Pong for his collaborative spirit!

Collaboration: Exhibition Partnerships // 2018

We are pleased to announce several collaborations that will take place in 2018, within the scheme of our International Residence and Local Participants Program.

Curated by Jos Diegel and taking place at  LS43 in Berlin, PILOTENKUECHE will be presenting a best-of selection of video work from our current collection. LS43 is a trans-media space that supports contemporary trans-media and video artists with cyclical two month exhibitions.

Organized by Carola Rümper, we also look forward to several group exhibitions at MP43 in Berlin.

Lastly, we have a new partnership with Alte Handelsschule, organized by Barbara Röhner. Our first show will be realized next February, with work from the next residents of the 34th round.

Collaboration: Partner Residency // Haven For Artists

We are pleased to announce an international collaboration between the Lebanese program Haven For Artists and our own Residence and Local Participants Program.

Prompted by an opportunity building mandate, PILOTENKUECHE aims to create an international collaborative network between partners of an inclusive ethos. Based in Beirut, Haven For Artists is an apolitical NGO supporting the projects of artists from all fields, and offers a network of venues, project support and a collaborative mandate between visiting artists and the modern underground art scene of Lebanon and the Middle East. Set in a shared community house, the project has been initiating and encouraging workshops, lectures and a diverse event program since 2011. We look forward to developing an international exchange program and to welcoming members of their community into our own!

Review: Lenka L. Lukacovicova at Ping Pong

Last week, one of our pilots exhibited at a local art space in Lindenau. Under the title “Situations which were as if they occurred as yesterday,” Lenka Lukacovicova presented an investigation of boundaries between mundane acts and performativity, as well as the ways in which photographic medium can  provoke an ongoing negotiation, rather than a fixed state.

We would like to thank the organizer, curator and artist Marcel Noack pf Ping-Pong for his collaborative spirit!

Visiting: East Side Continued // 09.11.17

Last week, we continued visiting Leipzig’s east side endeavors.  We made our regular visit with Hannes Uhlenhaut, co-founder of Studio Paunsdorf. We were once more welcomed at his ceramic & mixed media collective atelier, where he introduced us to his practice and to ongoing kiln experiments. We discussed strategies in contemporary sculpture, the ways of accommodating technical needs and of how to incorporate the implications of a medium.

After taking a break for a late lunch and Baklava, we continued to Krudebude, a community initiative led by students in the field of cultural studies and business. We were introduced to the multipurpose galleries, used for exhibitions from international artists, shows, and DIY workshops such as ‘Tools for Fools.’ Thank you for having us!

We ended our day at an opening at Salon Similde, and even had some time for the excellent home made cooking at the Volxkuchen beside the gallery.

Re-View: Open Studio // 03-04.11.17

During last weekends Open Studio event, we were pleased to introduce the current round of pilots to an inquisitive public. Mid-way through the residency program, the 33rd round hasn’t stopped surprising us with their curious and playful approaches.

Impressions

Our artists also explained their processes and cogitations during the first series of “Work in Dialogue” talks.  We had the chance to discuss the interrelation of themes and disciplines with the audience. Thank you to all who attended this series and expressed interest in our endeavors. We hope to see and meet you during our final exhibition, “WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?”

Open Studio // international group exhibit / 03-04.11.17

The upcoming show of our most recent residents from the UK, Canada, Israel, Korea, China, Slovakia, the US, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands will present ongoing work after a month spent at the residency. This round of artists has a particular interest in painting, installation, print media, found objects and performance.

The “Open Studio” event is a preview for the final presentation, taking place on December 16th of 2017. This exhibit aims to share the research and production that has continued at the new site of Pilotenkueche. It is our goal to trigger and to develop a dialogue, to propel a participative mandate between enthusiasts & artists.

On the second day of the Open Studios, we would like to invite the public to further participate in an open discussion about the process of our current residents.

“Work in Dialogue” Talks:  4.11.17, 14:00h

The PILOTENKUECHE art program is an independent project, open to artists of all nationalities. The common goal of the final group exhibition leads to intensive dialogue about individual ideas and practices, and binds each artist temporarily into a group, leading to a long term network that exists even after the residency is over.
